The end of Blair
Tony Blair in the dustbin of history (Photomontage: Simon Assaf)
We are in the final days of Tony Blair. And good riddance to bad rubbish.
Few could imagine that his Labour government – swept to victory in 1997 promising a “more caring Britain” and an “ethical foreign policy” – would increase inequality between the rich and poor, plunge Iraq and Afghanistan into bloody chaos, and become the darling of the extreme right wing cabal in the US.
In this special issue, Socialist Worker contributors give their damning verdict on Blair, his policies and his appalling legacy.
The following should be read alongside this article: » George Galloway: 'Let’s unite to drive out the disaster of Blairism'» Tony Blair: down and out» Blair's legacy is Iraq: Nothing else even comes close» Beware of Gordon Brown’s scowling menace» Privatisation and cuts wreck the NHS» This disastrous decade for the health service» Law and order agenda has punished the poor» Alienation, segregation, privatisation – the reality of Blair’s education policy» Following racism down the wrong path» New Labour's 'more equal society'» Timeline – ten years of Blair government
