Inquests set to be quashed

Attorney general Dominic Grieve has applied to quash inquest verdicts for 96 Liverpool football fans who died as a result of the Hillsborough football disaster.

The verdicts are of accidental death. The move comes after an independent report highlighted how police caused the 1989 tragedy.

Homeless man remembered

More than 150 people turned out in Totnes, Devon for the funeral of a homeless man who died of hypothermia on the streets. The crowd took turns to carry his cardboard coffin.

Hamper boss stands accused

William Rollason, the boss of bankrupt Christmas hamper group Farepak, has been accused of deliberately misleading the company’s other directors.

Farepak, which was a weekly savings scheme for the hampers, collapsed eight years ago. Some 116,000 savers lost £37 million.

More Muslims in youth jails

One in five inmates in young offenders’ institutions are Muslims, new figures show. The figure has risen sharply from 13 percent in 2009-10.

They told the prisons inspector that they are more likely to be restrained and victimised.
