PCS and Unite union members at the British Museum were set to strike together on Thursday this week from 4pm against the outsourcing of their jobs. This follows two previous strikes. Supporters can visit picket lines from 4pm onwards.
Workers are targeting events held for British Museum members in their protests. Martin, a PCS rep, told Socialist Worker on their second walkout, “Workers are petrified they’ll lose their jobs or terms and conditions. But people felt positive after our first strike.”
Some 520 Barnet council jobs are to be transferred to Capita, workers were told on Friday of last week. More than half of them are to be exported to towns across the UK. This is part of the “One Barnet” programme of privatisation, worth a total of up to £750 million.
John Burgess, branch secretary of the workers’ Unison union, called it “a dark, dark day in the history of Barnet council”. But he pledged that “our campaign is still very alive and focused”.
