The PCS civil service workers’ union has called a day of action on Friday of this week. The action will focus on the draconian attack to civil service workers’ terms and conditions.
The day is called under the demand, “Don’t rip up our rights”. Staff at the Department for Work and Pensions are being encouraged to hold 15 minute walkouts. On the same day PCS members in the Department for Transport were set to strike over job cuts and privatisation.
Workers plan to picket offices across Britain from 7.30am. The walkout was sparked by the government’s refusal to guarantee the redeployment of workers from the DVLA who don’t want to be transferred to private sector contractors.
