News
by Colin Hugill, former worker at Vestas wind turbine factory on the Isle of Wight
We’ve needed action on climate change for ages, but all the politicians want to do is talk about it. There are too many people making money out of polluting the world—and politicians don’t want to stand up to them.
The government has talked about all the green jobs it will create, but where are they? If the politicians aren’t going to do anything, then it’s down to us.
I think the only tool we have left to use is direct action. Our fight at the Vestas wind turbine factory inspired a lot of people. We may not have saved our jobs but we helped to make climate change and renewable energy a national issue.
Everyone who cares about the planet should join the protests—then we’ll have more chance of forcing the government to listen.
The following should be read alongside this article: » Graph showing proportion of waste by sector in the UK» Can we change the world enough to save the planet?» Is global warming all your fault?» We need to look for collective solutions to climate change» We don't have to abandon industrial progress to beat climate change
