Protest humiliates racists in Glasgow

Around 3,000 anti-racists and anti-fascists blocked a threatened racist protest outside Glasgow’s central mosque last Saturday.
A group styling themselves the Scottish Defence League—after the English Defence League, which has attempted a series of racist protests in England—first threatened a protest outside the mosque then a march and rally in the city centre.
In response we saw one of the biggest anti-racist demonstrations anywhere in Britain for some time—despite the appalling weather. It was organised by the Scotland United anti-racist coalition.
In the event 70 racists eventually gathered enough bravado to leave the pub where they had congregated.
When they emerged, completely surrounded by police, they shouted drunkenly for a few minutes, before they were ushered onto buses.
They did not march, they did not intimidate anyone in Glasgow, and they did not manage to recruit anyone to their “cause”.
Meanwhile the Scotland United march wound its way noisily through the heart of the city, eliciting applause from shoppers and passers-by.
The SDL were dumped outside of the city, having had a wasted day trying to promote racism and division in Glasgow.
