Solidarity appeal: Everyone must back our battle for a public service

Jane Loftus
by Jane Loftus, CWU president
We are calling on everyone to support the postal workers’ strike.
We need the whole trade union movement, and the public generally, to rally round the CWU union and to help win an important victory.
At the heart of our dispute is the defence of a public service and jobs.
We are not going to allow Royal Mail to be run for profit, without regard to public need and workers’ rights.
The scale of change planned by Royal Mail is frightening and unprecedented.
The postal industry, along with the workplaces and jobs of our members, could be unrecognisable.
Royal Mail is rolling out those changes with little or no concern for the views or interests of our members.
They are the hard-working postal staff who deliver to every address in Britain.
Worse still, we have seen an alarming rise in bullying and harassment cases with managers using the flimsiest of reasons to sack postal workers with long service.
Royal Mail managers have been brought in from far and wide in an effort to reduce the backlog that has built up at offices due to local and regional strikes.
What a disgrace that there is unlimited money for management to attempt to weaken the union.
Collect money for our hardship fund, join our picket lines and other solidarity events. Stand with us and win with us.
