Strike By Name: One Man’s Part In The Miners’ Strike
The miners’ strike remembered
Durham miner Norman Strike kept a diary of his life during the 1984‑5 strike.
To mark the dispute’s 25th anniversary, he began publishing it daily on the internet.
After more than six thousand hits on his blog, Norman decided it should also be in print.
Norman says he decided to keep memoirs so his “young daughters might, when they were older, come to understand the reasons why they had to suffer without pocket money for a year.”
Those who lived through the strike will doubtless be brought to tears as Norman relives the heroism of the miners and their families—and the treachery of the Labour Party leaders who sold them out.
For those too young to remember, Strike By Name is a fascinating insight into the most explosive industrial dispute Britain has ever seen.
