United Campaign Against Police Violence launched
Campaigners angered by the death of Ian Tomlinson and attacks on the right to protest have launched a new campaign, the United Campaign Against Police Violence.
The group came out of a demonstration and public meeting following the G20 protests.
It is a coalition of trade unionists, anti-war activists, campaigners against deaths in custody and others who want to oppose police violence and to defend our civil liberties. The campaign has already planned a series of events over the next few weeks.
These include a “lights out” in London at 8.30pm on Friday of this week in remembrance of Ian Tomlinson.
It then plans to take its message to Millwall—Ian Tomlinson’s favourite football team—with mass leafleting and a banner drop at the club’s home game this Saturday.
There will be a public meeting on 5 May and a national demonstration to remember Ian and against police violence and on 23 May.
