Left Field storming success at Glastonbury
The Left Field at this year’s Glastonbury music festival was a storming success, drawing in crowds at all times and demonstrating the thirst for radical politics among young people today.
Saturday night at the Left Field was hosted by Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) and included a debate on fighting fascism featuring LMHR’s Martin Smith, Amicus general secretary Derek Simpson and a host of artists including rappers Akala and Natty.
This was followed by a gig headlined by Hard-Fi playing to a packed audience.
The NME.com music website described it as one of the best gigs at Glastonbury this year.
Sunday saw veteran activist Tony Benn speak alongside environmental campaigner George Monbiot, the TUC’s deputy general secretary Frances O’Grady and others on the theme of “Another World Is Possible”.
Monbiot also spoke at the Left Field on Sunday lunchtime at a meeting hosted by Bookmarks, the socialist bookshop, addressing the threat posed by climate change and strategies for fighting it.
