STUDENTS AT the University of Kent occupied the Canterbury campus's senate building for 24 hours last week. They were protesting at the university's harsh policy on examinations, and against top-up fees.

SACKED SOUTH West Trains driver Sarah Friday has partially won her claim for unfair dismissal. An industrial tribunal this week decided that Sarah, whose colleagues took three days of strikes in her defence, had been unfairly dismissed. However, it ruled that she had not suffered sexual discrimination, and had not been unfairly dismissed whilst on health and safety duty. Sarah's RMT branch is discussing its next move.
