Councils EVERY WORKER in Liverpool City Council has received a redundancy notice and a letter inviting them to apply for voluntary severance. The council wants 536 voluntary redundancies, but has reserved the right to pick and choose. This makes compulsory redundancies almost certain. The council's chief executive is David Henshaw, known as a "hatchet man" with a reputation for slashing council workforces. Workers in the Liberal Democrat led council are angry that they first heard of the redundancy plan on the local radio. UNISON union members planned a mass meeting for this Friday to discuss how to fight back. |
